Agency Commences Demolition Of illegal Structures In Kaduna

The Kaduna Urban Development and Planning Authority (KASUPDA) has commenced the demolition of illegal structures in Kaduna metropolis.
Sources state that the exercise started in Kabala Doki area of Kaduna North Local Government on Thursday. Cross section of shop owners who spoke out said the exercise was inhumane to there buisnesses and they had no fore warning of the demolition
One of them, Mr David Chukwuma said that he rented his shop in January this year at N150, 000, only to be demolished along with all his goods.

A widow and mother of seven children, Mrs Roseline Chukwuma of Kigo New Extension, expressed fear that she would soon lose her shop and house to the exercise.
According to her, the shop and the house had been marked for demolition and appealed to the authority to consider her plight.
Reacting to the demolition, the General Manager of KASUPDA, Ms Sarah Haruna, said the exercise was part of the authority's mandate to control the development of illegal property in the state.
She said all those whose property were marked were earlier served with notice to stop work on the structures but ignored the warning.
The General Manager said the agency would henceforth pull down any structure erected without legal permit, adding that more houses and shops constructed illegally had also been marked for demolition.
She warned all affected persons to evacuate their property as no compensation would be paid.
This demolition exercise would be a continuous effort until the whole metropolis gets clean and properly developed,'' Haruna warned
